The town of Norwell Stormwater Working Group will host a public information session on Wednesday, January 22 from 6:00-7:00pm regarding a new stormwater bylaw being proposed for consideration at the February 10 Special Town Meeting.
The Stormwater Working Group has been meeting since the summer of 2019 to discuss ways of complying with the Clean Water Act requirements to prevent further pollution from stormwater runoff that is already degrading the town’s surface waters.
Existing waterways that do not meet Clean Water Act standards include the North River, Second and Third Herring Brook and Longwater Brook. In addition, the bylaw is meant to address reducing existing pollution and the amount of stormwater being diverted onto public roadways.
The stormwater working group comprises representatives from Norwell Conservation, Planning, Board of Health, Department of Public Works, Selectmen, the North and South Rivers Watershed Association, the development community and Norwell residents.
A draft of the stormwater bylaw will be available at the meeting.
