As part of the South River Restoration project, the town of Duxbury, NSRWA, MassBays, and the Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration will host a public information session regarding the removal of the Temple Street dam located on the South River at Duxbury Town Hall on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 7:00pm. This public information session will present 75% design plans for the removal of the Temple St. dam. The dam removal includes removing the dam outlet structure to meet the following project goals:

  • Remove the Temple Street Dam to restore ecological processes and natural hydrology while limiting downstream impacts to infrastructure and structures,
  • Restore fish and wildlife passage, particularly for river herring, American eel, and other anadromous and native river fish species,
  • Reduce or eliminate the need for dam maintenance,
  • Mitigate the impacts of climate change (e.g., through carbon sequestration and flood attenuation).

Please join us to find out more about this exciting project to restore the South River to a self-sustaining, climate-resilient, and ecologically functional river system.
