Explore South Shore 2024: 365 Nature Places To Know
Since 2020, our Explore South Shore program has highlighted places in our watershed and beyond where the public can go to enjoy the natural world. Walking trails and fishing spots, boat ramps and beaches; parks, playgrounds, historic sites, and so much more. To keep things fresh, each year we change the program’s theme. This year it’s “365 Nature Places to Know.”
Care to join us? Every morning beginning January 1st, we’ll feature one of the South Shore’s best nature places on Facebook and Instagram. Not on social media? We’re listing all the spots here on our website as well!
All of these “Nature Places to Know” can also be found in the Get Outdoors section of NSRWA.org, which now boasts more than 550 listings! Make Get Outdoors your first stop when seeking information about local trails, kayak launches, and even picnic tables. We are constantly updating our database to provide the facts you need to go out and explore.
Walking trails are by far our most popular listings, so we’ll feature at least two of those each week – a longer route on Saturday, and a shorter one on Sunday. Mondays will be for family-friendly places, and on Tuesdays we’ll feature spots that promote accessibility. On Wednesdays, we’ll highlight water access, while Thursdays will offer a mix of themes, such as “Birders Love” “Herring Runs,” and “Up For a Challenge?” On Factoid Fridays, we’ll share some facts.
We’re changing up our trivia contest this year too! Once a month, we’ll present a “Where In the Watershed?” photo, and invite you to guess where it was taken. (Share your guesses by commenting on our Facebook page and Instagram feed.) At the end of each month, one lucky winner will be randomly selected to receive a custom NSRWA prize package. Click here for contest rules.
As always, we encourage you to share photos from your Explore South Shore adventures with the hashtag #ExploreSouthShore.
We rely on the generosity of our community to support our programs. And, with a reach of nearly three-million per year, Explore South Shore offers local businesses a wonderful opportunity to reach new people across the South Shore.
