Explore South Shore 2025: Postcards from the ‘Shed

Get to know your local watershed!

Established in 2020, our Explore South Shore program offers daily tips on ways to enjoy the outdoors. Each year we mix things up a little by changing the theme. This year, it’s “Postcards from the ‘Shed.”

“Which shed?” The watershed! In addition to connecting you with great places to enjoy nature, our aim this year is to increase awareness of our local watersheds. Not just the North and South Rivers, but the Indian Head and Herring Rivers too. We’ll head north to the Gulf, Weir and Fore Rivers, and south to the Bluefish, Eel, and Jones. Each day, when we feature a public property, we’ll also identify which watershed it’s in and the stewardship group for that watershed on the South Shore.

Throughout 2025, Explore South Shore will offer one suggestion per day — walking trails and boat launch ramps; fishing spots and playgrounds; beaches, parks and historic sites; and plenty more. We’ll show you where to find picnic tables, where to look for wildlife, where to bring the kids (and/or the dogs), and where to just sit and enjoy the view. Plus, test your local knowledge with our monthly “Where in The Watershed” photo quiz! (Click here for contest rules.)

Ready to join us for this great adventure? Every morning beginning January 1st, we’ll feature one of the South Shore’s best nature places on Facebook and Instagram. Not on social media? We’re listing all the spots on our website as well (see below) . Find detailed information on each and every property in the Get Outdoors section of NSRWA.org.

As always, we encourage you to share photos from your Explore South Shore adventures with the hashtag #ExploreSouthShore.

HELP SPREAD AWARENESS BY SPONSORING THIS PROGRAM! We rely on the generosity of our community to support our programs. And, with a reach of nearly three-million per year, Explore South Shore offers local businesses a wonderful opportunity to reach new people across the South Shore.
