The North and South Rivers Watershed Association (NSRWA) has once again been chosen as the recipient of Planet Subaru’s Share the Love® campaign. In 2018, Planet Subaru of Hanover donated $18,147.00 to the NSRWA which was used to purchase a program vehicle.
This year the NSRWA will use the $16,500 donation to get more people outdoors in 2022! Planet Subaru’s generous donation is supporting NSRWA-led outdoor programs, its website with information to get outdoors, and monthly blogs on ways to enjoy nature. These funds power the Explore South Shore section of the NSRWA website to help people get the information they need to explore the outdoors on the South Shore.
Last year, the NSRWA had more than 155,000 online visits to its 300+ Explore South Shore outdoor listings. There are various categories for the properties, including hiking, playgrounds, paddling, fishing, and more. Every listing includes directions, a property map, and features, as well as parking info, and trail descriptions.
People can also accept the weekly Explore South Shore Challenge where you will find yourself identifying birds and trees, searching for fireflies, picking blueberries, and even getting up early to watch a sunrise! Ready to explore a tidepool? Or to learn what geocaching is all about? Thirsty for some hike-local brewery pairings? Every Wednesday a new activity is introduced with locations on the South Shore where the challenge can be fulfilled. There will be a prize package for each months contest winner. Just post a photo from your adventure to the NSRWA Instagram page with the hashtag #ExploreSouthShore
Marc Guy, from Weymouth, said, “I have only lived here for a few years, and the Explore South Shore content has been a saving grace for me and my family during the COVID stay-at-home orders. My kids and I really got to know the special outdoor areas to go to because of the NSRWA resources!”
Getting people outside to explore nature is at the heart of NSRWA’s work to protect local waters because you protect what you love. Through Planet Subaru’s Share the Love® campaign, now more South Shore residents will be able to “share the love” of the outdoors!
Jeff Morrill, co-owner of Planet Subaru, said, “We joined the NSRWA in 2003 and share their passion for protecting the South Shore’s ecological resources. We’re proud to be associated with their members and their values.”
NSRWA Executive Director Samantha Woods said, “Getting people outdoors is integral to their own well-being and the planet’s! Through Subaru’s Share the Love® Campaign we hope to be able to get young people and their families outside. Partnering with Planet Subaru makes sense – they share in our vision of engaging people out in nature so they will learn to love and protect it.”
