160 bushels or approximately 80,000 adult sized quahogs from the Taunton River were transported to and then cast into the North and South Rivers in the areas where shellfishing will be allowed starting on November 1st this year. Marshfield Harbormaster and Scituate and Marshfield Shellfish Warden, Mike Dimeo, led the effort over two days this past week with about twenty volunteers, some in their own boats, to enhance the population of shellfish for recreational harvesting. This “reseeding” of shellfish has been done periodically to replenish the population that is harvested recreationally. See maps below for the conditionally approved areas that shellfishing is allowed in both rivers. If you would like to support the purchase of shellfish for transplant both Scituate and Marshfield have Shellfish Gift accounts you can donate to!
