We are excited to highlight the capstone project work by Amelia DiCosimo. Amelia is a senior at Scituate High School who became involved with NSRWA, CSCR and SBNMS in the summer of 2023 learning about Scituate salt marshes. Amelia took that experience and ran with it. She applied for and received a $5,000 grant from the Marjot Foundation to conduct her own salt marsh project. This past summer Amelia joined us in the field to combine her work with NSRWA’s South Shore Salt Marsh Assessment Project. She also did a great job of recruiting a team of students to work on the project. We had a fun and productive summer collaborating with her team on the marshes of Scituate.
The Center for Student Coastal Research (CSCR) in collaboration with Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary (SBNMS) and partners like the NSRWA have developed the STREAM to Sanctuary Certificate of Watershed Stewardship . To earn this certificate students must develop and complete their own capstone research project and present it to the SBNMS staff. Amelia and seven other local students presented their projects on October 16th at the SBNMS headquarters. Each student presented their research through a ‘story map’. We’re excited to share Amelia’s story map here. We think you’ll really enjoy it and will probably learn something.
A huge congratulations to Amelia for earning her STREAM to Sanctuary Certificate of Watershed Stewardship!
