Vote to Expand the South River Park

If you are a Marshfield resident or know one please ask them to vote yes on Article 10 to expand the South River Park at Marshfield Town Meeting on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 7:00pm at the Marshfield High School!
The Town of Marshfield has an opportunity to increase the green space along the South River and expand the South River Park and Greenway by acquiring an abutting ½ acre parcel at 2160 Ocean St for $210,000 using Community Preservation funding. The land acquisition is part of the continued commitment of the Town of Marshfield’s Open Space Committee and the Community Preservation Committee to create a South River Greenway for passive recreation and improve the ecological conditions along the riverfront. The acquisition will transform a blighted underutilized property to an attractive natural park that will improve the visual landscape at the primary entrance to the commercial downtown which benefits local business and the entire community.
- Enlarging the South River Park will provide an additional All Persons Accessible walking trail adjacent to the Veterans Honor Roll enhancing the park experience for Veterans, their families and the community by offering increased access to river viewing and seating along the river bank.
- The expanded park serves to address a lack of accessible open space in an area of high density housing.
- The expanded park will feature environmentally sensitive design and impactful ecological improvements to this riverfront property. Restoring degraded riverfront land provides significant benefit to the health of the South River and critical habitat along its banks which many species of fish, birds and other small animals and insects depend on to survive. Proposed activities will be designed as low impact with minimal infrastructure and impervious surfaces.
