“We live in an area where the environment is always threatened. We have a lot of existing dams that have been around for over 100 years. These dams breakup and fracture our rivers and their ecosystems. There are problems with too much water use, which has a negative impact on the health of our rivers. There are also issues with runoff and pollutants.” – Peter Kelly-Detwiler.
Peter and his friends are embarking on the Wampanoag Extreme Challenge Paddle to raise awareness about the importance of connecting our rivers and protecting our waters to raise essential funds needed to restore our local rivers.
The three-day, 72-mile trek will take the team thru an historic Native American water route that connects Massachusetts Bay and Narraganset Bay along the North River and the Taunton River.
Meet the team: Peter Kelly-Detwiler, Dan Shafto, Sloane Graff, Whiting Tennis, Clay Tennis, and Scott Tripler.
We all need clean water and healthy rivers. We hope you will take an active part in this effort by supporting our team. A gift of any size will go a long way in helping to make our rivers healthier. Help us reach our campaign goal of $10,000 by June 15th.
You can do your part to support healthy rivers by making a donation today and Peter and the team do their part by trekking through rugged terrain, paddling 72 miles, and dodging the poison ivy that will likely find along the way.
Rally your friends, family, and networks to support our work for healthy rivers. Together let’s help fish move freely to spawn and protect our local waters resources. You will feel good about doing good, locally.
Watch as the team launches from the Driftway Conservation Area in Scituate. LAUNCH DATE: June 3rd at 12:30.
